Bernard Chang founded atelier BERNARD CHANG (aBC) in 2024 after his departure from Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), where he served as Principal and led Greater China and S.E.Asia sustainability-focused projects. Expanding into the arts, he translates his architectural vision into paintings that reflect Global Warming and its impacts to our Cities, Nature, and Humanity; and contemplate our shared responsibility to future cities, ecological preservation, and human well-being. Bernard holds a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture degree with High Distinction from California College of the Arts.
Missing Statement
With over three decades of global architectural experience, Bernard brings a unique perspective to his painting practice, blending his expertise in spatial design with a deep concern for climate change and its impact on both built and natural environments. His work reflects a commitment to investigating how rising temperatures, sea levels, and ecological shifts are transforming the lives of people and the face of cities worldwide. Through innovative paintings, urban interventions, and cross-disciplinary collaborations, aBC seeks to spark dialogue and inspire action toward more resilient communities and sustainable futures.
“I believe that architects and artists have a vital role in shaping not only our physical surroundings but also our collective awareness of environmental issues. By weaving together artistry, architectural insight, and social responsibility, my aim is to create impactful experiences that engage audiences, enrich culture, and champion a sustainable vision for cities and the planet.”
